On the 23 of november 2012 we are had a guy coming in to play songs and magic, and to teach us about water safety, and good fishing. He was the Minstrel. He was awesome.

In maths this term we have been focusing on getting our basic facts right. We have also learnt about power numbers and practiced rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.

In reading we have been learning how to read and find information.  Now we are learning about reading fluently.

At writing time we have been writing our own Geronimo Stilton story. We have also been doing a lot of descriptions.

We have the life education bus at our school. Our class is learning about good friends.

Our class is also focusing on respect.

23.5.12
This week is book week. On Thursday we will be dressing up as one of our favorite book characters. The last couple of days e have had a different teacher come and read to us a book that they really enjoy. Wednesday afternoon my dad and some other local people are also reading a children's book that they have really been drawn into. When we dress up I am going to dress up as Collete from some of Geronimo Stilton's books. Collete is one of the ' Thea Sisters ' and even though she's not my best, my sister said she would be easiest because of all the pink that she wears.

The book fair opened yesterday and mum bought me a Sponge bob Square pants book called For The Love Of Bubbles and this morning I got a rubber from the variety sale. There are some really neat books so if your anywhere near Picton you could come and have a look. Some of the money goes to getting more books for the school library.

The school choir is well underway and we have some excelent singes with excelent voices. When we do the performance on the night at the Marlborough Centre with Susan Prentice, I am sure that we are going to be brilliant and even though it is not a competition, I am sure we will be the best if you separated up all the schools.

The gymnastics group has just started but I dont know much because I am not in it. I have given my sister some coaching with a skipping rope and have taught her how to do a forwards roll. The only reason I am not in the group is because I forgot to go to the meeting.

I hope to be able to update you again about what is happening in the school.

Wow it's already term 2 2012! This year we have been focusing on the enviroment. We are about to go to Kaipupu point. Kaipupu point is a reserve in Picton for New Zealand's native birds. Sadly quite a few native birds have passed out and not so many are left.We need to work on saving our native birds or one day there will be none left. What has been killing them is stoats, weasels, rats and ferrets. Around Kaipupu there is a whole lot of traps for the predators. Hopefully we can save them before it's to late. What expert's like Pink reading group and all other groups and classes in the school want is for there always to be native birds.

This year we have been thinking and will think more about Kaipupu Point and how to save New Zealand birds. In art  we have done Egyptian  Pyramids and our Self Portraits. We had to think about perspective and proportion. In writing we have been thinking about description. We had to try to "show not tell" and describe things well so people can agree with and understand what you are talking about. We also had to deliberately choose the best words to get people in the picture. In maths we were thinking about getting fast at our Basic Facts and knowing them all and knowing them well. In topic we have been learning about Maori art. We had been to Blenheim's Millennium Gallery where there were illustrations from Maori stories. In our topic books we had to draw a picture that was inspired by something at the gallery. On the day after and before A.N.Z.A.C Day we read a few poems and stories about it and then in our topic books we did a title page about A.N.Z.A.C and then glued in the poems. Fortunately the teacher said "don't draw pictures of bombs exploding and people dying." Netball practices have just started and our first game is this Saturday.

Wow! It's already Term 2 in 2012!. . .
In Room 1, we have being writing very interesting things about are holidays and weekends. We wrote a letter to Marlborough Express about Mothers Day and neat pictures. We started doing our portraits to be on the wall all this year and a little bit of next year. In Term 1, We learnt a lot about TEAM and I got very interested in art and the Millennium Gallery. In there, we learnt about three illustrators. We did some spelling tests too. Mrs. Easton gave us a Weekly Quiz once a week. Our Teacher, Mrs. Easton, Gave us Handwriting stuff To-Do. My handwriting got better everyday. I love writing. We are going on a Kaipupu Point trip, but it got cancelled three times. There, they take care of birds so the don't get extinct. In Reading, there are six groups. Pink is the best reading group for me,  Grace, Anna and Hannah are in Pink group.

Suddenly it is Term 2 already in 2012. We have been waiting for a Website update, but as the present site is still there. Here are some updates about our school.
We now have 5 classrooms operating. Mrs Altoft is still in Room 3 with New Entrants, Mrs Cloudesley remains in Room 5 but this year has a Year 3 and 4 class. Mrs Easton continues in Room 1, with a Year 4 and 5 class. We have two new teachers Miss Whiting in Room 2 teaching Year 5 and 6, and Miss Merrall is teaching Year 1 and 2 in Room 4. Mr Pottinger is the Principal. We also have a new Secretary - Mrs Frisken, since Mrs Boyce retired partway through last year.
We make a happy team, and the year is humming along, with lots happening of course.
